Responsibilities : Prepare detailed reports and make changes as appropriate.Desirable strengths for this jobConsiderable knowledge of all phases of surveying and mapping, basic laws, court decisions, federal and state regulations and established procedures involved in performing or reviewing surveys.Considerable knowledge of land ownership, surveying and mapping laws, and regulations affecting surveys and boundaries as applied in the State of Alaska.Considerable knowledge of land records, legal land descriptions, coordinate systems and rectangular survey systems (federal and state).Strong written and oral communications skills. Applicant must be able to discuss technical issues with other surveyors and engineers as well as to the public in laymen's terms.Surveying experience working in the field as well as processing of field surveys from field to finish.Experience in writing, interpreting and administration of contracts.Effective negotiation skills for scope, schedule, cost and methods on small and large dollar surveying tasks.Ability to prepare, interpret and utilize engineering plans, maps and specifications.Knowledge of civil engineering and construction practices related to highways and airports.Knowledge of traffic safety practices.Experience performing research of land ownership, including using state and federal land status plats, deeds, and patents, as well as other materials relevant to ownership.Thorough knowledge of land ownership, surveying and mapping laws and regulations affecting surveys, which include complex coastal, riparian and navigablity determinations.

Requirements :Three professional references, at least one from a current or former supervisor, including names and their current phone numbers; 2. A copy of academic transcripts, if applicable; 3. Verification of professional registration as a Land Surveyor; 4. A complete job history/resume showing all previous employment including employer contacts names, addresses and telephone numbers, dates of employment, and any breaks in employment; 5. One professional writing sample authored by the applicant; and 6. Former and current state employees are asked to provide copies of their two most recent performance evaluations.
