Responsibilities : The principal engineer is involved in a variety of R&D projects and programs related to improved performance of structures on our clients transmission system. This position will provide assistance to these projects in the areas of project management, field tours and inspections, lab work, computer modeling (finite element and other), report writing and general design and analysis. Communication structure analysis - Our client has a vast wireless communication network (predominantly microwave) that is constantly undergoing modification and enhancement. owers and structures that support the communication antennas frequently need to be analyzed to check for structural adequacy under changed loading conditions. This position will be responsible to use the appropriate design codes and methodologies, along with in-house and commercially available computer software to model these structures. Extensive communication with the telecommunication engineering group will be required. Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures, and facilities, such as substations and transmission towers. Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Test soils and materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel. Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.

Requirements : A college degree in Structural Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides similar knowledge, skills and abilities is required. Professional knowledge of civil and structural engineering concepts and principles and a practical knowledge of conventional methodology associated with planning, design, and maintenance applicable to public electric utilities, power plants, and transmission systems in order to work independently.
